Curved White Oak Staircase
A straight-run builder staircase replaced with white oak treads, a flared curved starter step and a new railing, tied into the hardwood floor.

The problem
The original stairs were carpeted, squeaked, and landed awkwardly into the entry. The client wanted hardwood stairs that matched new white oak flooring and made the entry feel finished.
What Luke did
Luke stripped the stairs to the stringers, built new solid white oak treads and risers, and shaped a flared, curved starter step with a bullnose that wraps the bottom of the run. The railing was rebuilt with square black metal balusters and an oak handrail, and the whole flight was finished on site to match the floor.
The result
The staircase is now the first thing you see from the door. The curved starter step is the detail that gets photographed. No squeaks.
